Marika Brousianou- Illustrator & Painter
Hi!
My name is Marika Brousianou, and I'm a visual storyteller and educator. I was born and raised in Greece, and I am currently based in Chicago. As an artist and a teacher, I explore the unique ability of images to tell stories in ways that words cannot.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Painting from Deree: The American College of Greece, a Master of Fine Arts in Illustration with an emphasis on Graphic Novels from the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco, and a teaching certification from Moreland University’s TEACH-NOW program.
I'm skilled in both traditional and digital media, and I’ve participated in exhibitions in Greece and the United States. Alongside my personal work, I’m deeply passionate about teaching art. I began my teaching journey at Montini Catholic High School and now work with young artists at George Washington High School.
I believe that maintaining my own artistic practice helps me navigate the challenges of teaching by allowing me to "take my creative vitamins." At the same time, teaching helps me grow as an artist—it pushes me to develop creative solutions for projects, explore new techniques, and find endless inspiration from my students.
For me, art and teaching go hand-in-hand, and I can’t imagine doing one without the other.
